One of Us Is Guilty by Steve Cavanagh (Eddie Flynn #10)
Book Review and Rating
If you haven’t gotten into the Eddie Flynn series by Steve Cavanagh, you might be missing out. Eddie is a criminal defense attorney who uses his con artist background to his advantage in the courtroom. There are already nine primary books in the series and the 10th, One of Us Is Guilty, comes out in March 2027.
Legal thrillers aren’t a genre I visit often, but this series is a ‘yes’ for me every time. It’s always a page-turner with over-the-top scenarios and twists that work. Eddie is a brash and lovable main character, and his friends and family side characters have won me over too. If you can suspend reality and just go along for the ride of this series, it can be pretty fun to read.
Each book can standalone on its own, but like most detective series, there are two plots happening at once. Each trial is fairly standalone, and the detective storyline spans across all of the books. I recommend going in order so you get the full experience. I will admit I jumped in at book 4, Th1rteen, which was a truly unique premise, and I finished it in a day. I wish I had started with book 1, but I didn’t realize it was a series back then.
In book #10, Eddie is defending a wife accused of murdering a campaign staffer who is working for her husband. He is on trial too and there are multiple POVs including both spouses, Eddie’s, and a mysterious journal. As always, the characters are developed, the pages turn fast, the scenarios are ridiculous, and we get to solve another mystery with Eddie, Harry, Bloch, and Lake. There is a good deal of violence, but nothing too descriptive. All in this was a fun read and even though I predicted the twists, I was happily turning the pages and savoring another book in this addictive series.
My rating: 4.0 / 5.0
Thank you so much to the publisher, Atria Books, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book. You’ve enabled my Eddie Flynn addiction and it’s greatly appreciated.
