The Women in White by Sarah Pekkanen

Book Review and Rating

Sarah Pekkanen is one of my tried-and-true mystery authors and I was intrigued to see her latest book, The Women in White, incorporate a historical fiction plotline. This novel followed four women in the 1960s who were part of a university research study on parapsychology experiments. All four women abruptly disappeared, and the study ended, leaving a mystery behind.

The story is told in dual timelines, present day and flashbacks to the four women during the study. I thought the author did a great job weaving fiction and research together. I loved the four ladies from the past timeline but struggled a little with how handcuffed they were in their personal lives. It did a great job capturing the way women were treated in that period, even if it did leave me internally screaming at times.

This was another page-turner from an author that I regularly read, this time without tension or suspense, and leaning more towards character development. If you are in the mood for something a little more mystery and a little less thriller, with a hint of history woven in, this would be an excellent choice.

Thank you so much to the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for this advanced reader copy. I am always appreciative.

My rating: 4.0 / 5.0
