In this story, a documentary filmmaker returns to an abandoned mining town where her grandmother’s family disappeared from long ago.

In Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter, the reader follows the life of a thirty-something woman, Andy, living with her mother, Laura, in a small and quiet community until they both experience a traumatic event while in a restaurant.
The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak
The Island of Missing Trees is the second novel I have read by Turkish-British author Elif Shafak and I thoroughly enjoyed it. In The Island of Missing Trees, two teenagers fall in love in the Republic of Cyprus which is located south of Turkey and Southeast of Greece.
Akata Witch (Nsibidi Scripts #1) by Nnedi Okorafor
Nnedi Okorafor initially caught my reader heart with her novel Remote Control and her brilliant way of weaving fantasy and magic into everyday life. Akata Witch, the first in the Nsibidi Scripts series, highlighted Nnedi’s work in Africanjujuism, a sub-genre she coined.
